The Cast of Pitch Perfect and Their Bitchin’ Stage Roots

thecraptacular:

Pitch Perfect is just that. It’s quotable and laugh-out-loud funny. It has winning musical numbers and a cast that hits all the right notes, both literally and figuratively. Of course we’re going to aca-love any movie that has an a cappella version of “Party in the U.S.A.” The movie is in select theaters now, widely released this Friday. And wouldn’t you know it – it’s filled with actors we’ve seen on stage before.

Even though Daniel TOLD me there was a Spring Awakening orignal cast member in Pitch Perfect before I went to see it last night, I still didn’t recognize him, despite having an unusual talent for spotting them (particularly her, for some reason). I guess that hair and those glasses really obfuscated his rather attractive face.

Anyway, I was excited about this movie because I went to a school with at least a dozen a cappella groups and it was a thing.  So, it did not disappoint in helping me relive the aca-ridiculousness. But what I was not expecting was the laugh-out-loud silly/inappropriate moments in this movie. Especially LOVED Elizabeth Banks.

Just came back from a screening of this fun movie at a coffee shop that made me feel like I was back in college. This is not bad thing. I’d seen the movie once before, but I hadn’t heard of it at all until at least 15 years after it came out in 1989. Surprising due to my intense and long-term LOVE of the 1987 dance movie with the same choreographer.

Can I enter/win a dance contest at the beach and make out with my goofy but excellent dance partner now, please?

The Physics of The Hulk’s Jump ( … and other Hulk Goodies)
Rhett Allain is at it again, analyzing the physics (or lack there of) of your favorite pop culture phenomena. Here he is with some Hulk physics, to celebrate the opening of The Avengers.
For instance, to gain the mass necessary for Bruce Banner to become The Hulk, he would have to absorb all the solar energy hitting Earth for a full two and a half minutes!!!

I saw The Avengers yesterday and it was so much fun! You can tell everyone involved had fun making it too, which I definitely appreciate.

Trivia: What’s the best day in Kristen’s life? According to an interview with Trailer Addict it was her day shooting with the muppets. She’s Moderator in the new The Muppets movie. With all the parodies and spoofs surrounding this movie it’s hard to know what to expect. But as with of Kristen Schaal’s projects, we know at the very least it will be sheer amazingness.

Here’s a Happy Song with Kermit the Frog and Bret McKenzie to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving.

….I don’t buy this thing that moviemakers can ruin a book. All they can do is ruin a movie. The book is the book. Movies always bring readers to books. They never take readers away from books.

Jonathan Safran Foer in an interview with Daily Candy

He’s right.
I’ve watched movies that are book adaptations and said “well that wasn’t that good but now I really want to read the book.”

And even when I love the book first and then see the movie and hate it, this only serves as a reminder of how great the book is to start with.

Still, I’m hoping that this is as good as I want it to be.
